Here are our favourite ads this week, opening with a glossy new spot for Lexus featuring a hoverboard. Yes, a hoverboard! Finally, Back To The Future fans, it’s here! Well, sort of…

Lexus first teased about the hoverboard in late June, and this film shows it in action, ridden by skateboarder Ross McGouran.

It’s hugely fun stuff, especially for those who’ve dreamed of hoverboards since BTTF’s premonition of them in the 80s. But I have a few quibbles about the spot – it’s so slick that on first viewing I wondered if the hoverboard was all done in post, and did they really need to shoehorn the car in? The tech is real, as this behind-the-scenes film shows. But it’s all a marketing stunt and there are no plans to actually create a consumer version. Sad face. Agency: CHI & Partners London; ECD: Jonathan Burley; Creative director: Monty Verdi; Creatives: Brad Woolf, Dan Bailey; Director: Henry Alex Rubin; Production company: Smuggler.

First there was Alien vs. Predator. Now we have Old Spice stars Isaiah Mustafa and Terry Crews facing off in a new commercial for the brand. It’s all very silly but will no doubt go down a storm with fans of the brand’s ads. Agency: Wieden + Kennedy Portland; ECDs: Mark Fitzloff, Joe Staples; Creative director: Jason Bagley, Craig Allen; Creatives: Jarrod Higgins, Matt Sorrell; Director: Tom Kuntz; Production company: MJZ.

This ad to promote the launch of Angry Birds 2 sees the game brought into the real world, as a group of piggies are beset by missiles from above. It’s all a lot more fun than the usual animated trailers that we tend to get for the game. Agency: Wieden + Kennedy London; ECDs: Tony Davidson, Iain Tait; Creatives: Paddy Treacy, Philippa Beaumont, Mark Shanley, Artur Faria, David Goss; Director: François Rousselet; Production company: Riff Raff Films.

Marmite has released a new limited edition flavour, themed around the Summer of Love. The launch is promoted by this charming spot, featuring animation by illustrator Jim Stoten. Agency: adam&eveDDB; ECD: Ben Tollett; CCO: Ben Priest; Creatives: Shay Reading, Frank Ginger; Production company: Big Active.

We finish with two different energy drinks ads, one from the UK and one from Japan, with both offering an unusual take on the sector. The UK one, above, is for Lucozade Energy, and uses comedy to demonstrate how the drink can boost our performance, to – cue epic voiceover – ‘find our flow’. Agency: Grey London; Creative director: Darren Wright; Creatives: Theo Bayani, Miguel Gonzalez; Director: Nathan Pryce; Production company: Park Pictures.

The Japanese spot, for Shuchu Regain, aims to demonstrate how the drink will sharpen your concentration by setting you a quirky challenge, seen in the film above. The puzzles will also play out at train stations and bus stops, and in banner ads. Agency: Party.
