Alma Haser combines origami and portrait photography to startling effect in her Cosmic Surgery pop-up book

To create the images, Alma photographs her sitter then prints multiple copies of each portrait and folds them into a three-dimensional objects. These objects are then placed onto one of the prints and the whole thing is re-photographed. The geometric shapes are then cut to make each pop-up.

The Cosmic Surgery book was designed by Stanley James Press. The original run is now sold out but Alma is currently raising funds for another one. See here for details.
