Finding the Emptiness in Metropolitan Living
For his Back Door series, German photographer Michael Wolf sought out the traces of Hong Kong’s ever-growing population. There is a chilling stillness in the images, as the sprawling metropolis is reduced to a series of quiet, subtle gestures that make it easy to forget the city’s density and chaos. Man-made detritus is at the forefront of the series, but the human hand is out of sight. The effect is a remarkable set of photographs that question what goes unseen in a city that never sleeps.
