British artist and crafter Jenny Ayrton captures miniature wonderlands in molten glass; tiny stage-sets where you may project your own story. Many of her beautiful scenes have a domestic twist and are directly influenced by her own surroundings.
She explains: “I have a young daughter and whenever possible I try to see the world from her viewpoint, I find inspiration in the mundane and overlooked; a washing line blowing wildly on the first day of spring, an unknown couple on a park bench, a door ajar giving just a glimpse of what lies within…”
Ayrton graduated from Plymouth College of Art in 2012, and in 2014 she was selected for the Crafts Council’s prestigious Hothouse 4 programme. Her work has been featured on the cover of Craft & Design magazine, has won awards at two London shows, and has been selected for the 2015 British Glass Biennale. She’s also an associate member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, and a licentiate member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
