The Holiday Home is a Masterful Marriage of Dramatic Hillside Landscapes and Reinforced Concrete Volumes
Casa na Gateira by Camarim Architects snakes down a cliffside in Gateira, Portugal. The holiday home consists of a series of rectangular and trapezoidal volumes made from reinforced concrete and finished with a mix of white plaster, cork, and polished screed. A similarly geometric concrete trim lines the sloping backyard, further integrating the house into the natural hillside. Wooden slats mark both the entryways and windows—as well as the ceiling ventilation—to offer a calm airflow in the heat of the summer; the long house’s winding body allows for maximum space under the one-story ceilings, effectively nestling the Casa na Gateira into the tree-filled landscape with minimal interference.
