C’est Beau by OBIEKT

Montreal’s C’est Beau had existed as an online shop for years before they opened their first brick-and-mortar storefront on Mont-Royal Avenue—five years, in fact. The shop’s digital brand was secure—local products with a clean and refined twist that celebrate artisans—but to translate their digital brand into a storefront, the team roped in designer duo Gabrielle Rousseau and Philip Staszewski of OBIEKT to define C’est Beau’s physical presence. They started with a glazed facade that reflects the hand-crafted nature of what C’est Beau stocks; a matte white wash allows the featured products to pop in their own right. Across the store, muted emerald and burnt sienna highlights offer a visual tether to ground the lightness of C’est Beau’s interior, as does the black countertop. As a whole, the space is contemplative but open to be influenced: It puts C’est Beau’s products front and center.
