SohoCreate and Creative Review have joined forces on the Creative Symposium. Our day begins with an introduction from SohoCreate Chair and all-round advertising legend Sir John Hegarty.
Our next session looks at education and talent. As our education system becomes increasingly formulaic where do we find creative talent that will question, challenge, invent, break and re-engineer? Some of the most creative businesses in the country discuss how they rise to the recruitment challenge. Chaired by Patrick Burgoyne, Editor of Creative Review, we welcome Amy Smith from Framestore, Claire Anderson from The Mill, Katie Lee from Gravity Road and Lee Schuneman from Microsoft’s Lift London to share their secrets on recruiting the most creative talent in the world.

This is followed by ‘scent maverick’ Jo Malone. Jo grew her eponymous fragrance brand into a global leader. Following its sale to Esteé Lauder, she is now building an entirely new brand, Jo Loves. How is it the second time around? What are the pleasures and pitfalls of selling to a gobal brand and how does Jo keep her new business creative?
Can interiors and exteriors really make us more creative and can spending money on building design improve profit? When multi award-winning, global media making company, The Mill, needed more space, they called in Peter Moore, Director of Architecture at creative firm HMKM. They wanted to design a building that would maximise creativity. What can we learn from their journey to focus on the most important aspect of their business? Find out in our next session.
This is followed by two creative greats in conversation: Sir John Hegarty and the brilliant cinematographer Michael Seresin. Saracen began his career on Alan Parker’s Bugsy Malone in 1976. He continued to work with Parker on films including Midnight Express and Birdy, while his later career includes Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and, most recently, the new live action version of Jungle Book.

We finish our day with a session on leading creative companies, chaired by Andy Parfitt, the founder of Enlightend Leadership and former leader of BBC Radio 1. Nir Efrat from £6bn global games company King.com, Andria Vidler, CEO of CR’s owner Centaur Media, and William Sargent from Framestore, will discuss the challenges of leading high performing creative teams to constantly innovate and evolve.
