The New York Times’ Modern Love column features animated videos of reader-submitted essays exploring the ups and downs of love. Animation studio Moth Collective’s “A Kiss Deferred by Civil War” presents a personal narrative about a young love that was torn apart by the Bosnian War, only to be reunited in the United States many years later. The animation features minimal and delicate artwork, using graphic backgrounds and a 1990s Balkan color palette to reflect the time period.
