Faria Guimarães Apartments by Fala Atelier
Mon, 12/18/2017 – 13:50
For this project in Porto, Portugal, the team at Fala Atelier saw an opportunity to create a community-oriented space in a rapidly-gentrifying neighborhood. The team took the townhouse from the 20th Century and reallocated the interior space to make room for five apartments. They preserved the granite walls but erected an entirely new floor plan inside, lush with kitchens, bathrooms, and striking cobalt. Indeed, the refurbishments focus on creating a sense of playfulness and asymmetry with a peppering of bright tiling across the natural stone that lines the interior. The tiling continues to the exterior facade, where walkers on the street can’t help but notice the visual breath of fresh air.
