The elegant ad is shot by renowned fashion photographer Phil Poynter. It forms part of a recent trend for fashion brands to use older models in advertising, which has brought us Joan Didion as a face of Céline, Joni Mitchell modelling for Saint Laurent, and Charlotte Rampling for Nars, among many more.

As we reported in our Age issue last year, this trend is a sign of the fashion industry waking up both to the buying power of older women (and the need therefore to market to them) but also the appeal of older style icons to younger generations too.

The use of Bo Gilbert as a model in the 100th anniversary issue of Vogue makes for a nice addition to the older model trend and delivers a charming message about timeless fashion style. The issue will be Vogue’s biggest ever and will appear on news stands in May.
