How did you first become interested in design?
I wasn’t exposed to design at all in high school; I don’t think I even knew it was a profession. It wasn’t until I majored in computer science during college that I learned about the existence of design. I knew a little about code from my programming classes so I figured that qualified me to be the “web design guy” among my friends. I got my start by designing websites for their bands. Then, I became obsessed with fonts and colors, endlessly tweaking things. And I loved the entire process of building a website—not only designing the look and feel but also coding the site and making everything function the way I wanted it to.

After that, I was bored writing pure code in my programming classes. Within a year, I had dropped out of computer science and enrolled in a local community college to study multimedia. I was able to land my first job after a year or so of classes, and I haven’t looked back since.
