Landlocked between borders with five other countries, Belarus is a country of ample space: nearly 40% of the country remains coated with a thick brush of forests. It’s a country that can be cloaked in a sense of quiet—of sleepiness, even. In her series “It Must Be Beautiful”, Belarusian photographer Alexandra Soldatova documented a niche intervention on the placid but crisp and clean beauty of Belarus: the country’s decorated bus stops. For years, painters have anonymously been dressing the shelters with gorgeous murals of nature and nature’s beauty in all its glory: it’s equal parts public art and a public service.
