New Work from the Kiwi Illustrator

Perhaps the most fascinating thing about the cut-paper work of Eiko Ojala, an illustrator from New Zealand who we featured on Gestalten News a few months ago, is that he uses no paper. Instead, the vibrant depths and complex layers are actually rendered digitally based on hand-drawn sketches. His attention to detail is impressive: Tricky lighting, shadows, and textures approximate a shadow-box paper work immaculately. To see more work from artists and designers pushing the boundaries in visual storytelling, browse our selection of Gestalten books on illustration
