A few weeks after Twitter COO Adam Bain announced he was leaving the social network, one of his top two sales leaders has done the same.

Rich Alfonsi, who oversees Twitter’s sales efforts for all but its largest brand advertisers, is leaving for a role as head of global revenue and growth at Stripe. Translation: He’ll oversee Stripe’s sales team and report to a former colleague from Google, Stripe COO Claire Hughes Johnson.

Stripe, now valued at $9 billion, has historically been an engineering-led company, but has expanded its sales team in recent years as it has courted larger retail companies as customers. And it looks like that’s what Stripe CEO Patrick Collison expects Alfonsi to help with.

It’s a tough loss for Twitter, though, especially given Bain’s departure. Twitter has not consistently met Wall Street’s revenue targets this year and is in the process of restructuring its sales team following a recent round of layoffs. Losing Alfonsi and Bain at basically the same time won’t help (but then again, that’s why they call it a restructuring).

Matt Derella, who used to handle all of Twitter’s largest brand advertisers, oversees all Twitter sales teams as VP of sales. He reports up to CFO-turned-COO Anthony Noto.
