Since 1747, a crowded group of artisans have pounded kaolin, feldspar, and quartz into a smooth paste to be made into porcelain in the renowned Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg. The process is long and arduous–the workshop has consciously decided to avoid automation of any step–but the result is stunning, and the final product is sought after by top artists, architects, and designers alike. Paints and stains are prepared in-house for the finishing touch of each ornament. Browse the historic workplace, which is featured in our new book Insiders & Company. See more photographs below, and find more craftsmen, artisans, and their workshops in the book.
