In 2016, 500 years after Dutch artist Hieronymus Bosch died, we all had the unique opportunity to see his famous stone-carved sculptures of Saint John’s Cathedral in Hertogenbosch, by taking part in a “Wondrous Climb” to enjoy a unique tour of the building’s rooftops.

Independent graphic design firm Studio Stephan Lerou was hired by the Foundation National Monument Saint John to create the visual identity for the one-off experience. Taking inspiration from the 96 historic statues, its team came up with the name and branding, as well as all associated materials such as brochures, leaflets, posters, banners, bags and postcards.

More than 125,000 people visited “A Wondrous Climb” throughout 2016, deeming the project a huge success. Studio founder Stephen Lerou even received a personal letter from the city’s major, thanking him for “what you have done for us”.
