For over a decade, designer Hella Jongerius has helmed the taskforce in charge of exploring colors and materials for Swiss furniture company Vitra. Sifting through swatches of fabric and color palettes is no easy task. Indeed, one look at the studio in which Jongerius works with her team and it’s clear that they have their work cut out for them. In addition to coordinating Vitra’s trailblazing approach to furniture design, Jongerius is the brain behind the Vitra Colour & Material Library, which aims to create an intelligent and comprehensive system for organizing, documenting, and investigating the basic blueprints of every piece of furniture.
Take a look at Jongerius’ studio in Berlin in the series of photos below, which document her preparing for her exhibition at the Design Museum in London, or find out more in I Don’t Have a Favourite Colour—released last year, the book explores Jongerius’ comprehensive practice and hands-on approach to building a library. “Breathing Colour” will be on display through September 24, 2017.
