The Silver Lake Duplex Is Made for Meditation
Deep in the heart of Los Angeles, the architects at Marbletecture built a peaceful retreat hidden away from the busy city life. Tattuplex is divided into three parts: two partitioned volumes that form a duplex, as well as a live-in garage. The house was designed for a Zen Buddhist in search of a meditative home existing in harmony with nature, and the drought-tolerant garden is full of native plant species that emphasize the forgotten nature of L.A. The custom-built carpentry was a necessity, as the Tattuplex is organized around a three-axis equilateral grid that opens the space in unique and exciting ways.
