The third Modern Magazine conference will take place on Thursday October 29. It boasts an impressive line-up of speakers – editors, writers, designers and creative directors – who have each helped to bring successful and new ideas to contemporary magazine publishing.

And frequently, as the list of those taking part suggests, these innovations go way beyond the production of a single, printed edition.

Monocle editor Andrew Tuck is set to talk about the strategy behind the company’s radio station, for example, while Sophie Lovell, editor-in-chief of online architectural magazine Uncube, will demonstrate the potential of immersive digital publishing.

While the event naturally looks to the future of publishing, it will also ensure the past is well represented through a series of ‘magazine handling’ sessions. Here, attendees can touch and read examples of classic magazines: copies of Oz, Twen, Nova, Portfolio, The Face and others will be on hand to leaf through (a great opportunity if you’ve never seen these seminal publications in their printed form). The magazines have been sourced from the magCulture archive and the CSM Library.

Scott Dadich, editor-in-chief at Wired US and Louis-Jacques Derveau, editor/co-founder of The Alpine Review, are also set to appear at ModMag15; while Charlotte Heal, design director at Kinfolk and Mushpit editors Charlotte Roberts and Bertie Brandes join an impressive list of established names and relative newcomers to the industry. Smaller independents will also be represented by The Gourmand and Flaneur; while James Fairbank, head of brand at Rapha, will discuss the company’s move into print publishing.

The event will no doubt cover many of the areas which are now on any contemporary magazine-maker’s radar: from the state of mainstream and independent publishing, to the significance of digital and audio elements, not to mention the question of whether to produce free, paid-for or branded content.

The full list of speakers is as follows:
